Blitz The Ambassador - On My Mixtape Shit

Blitz The Ambassador - On My Mixtape Shit

Recently, Blitz the Ambassador released Stereolive, an EP of select live recordings off of his debut album, Stereotype. I felt compelled to shine some light on a mixtape that served as an appetizer to his debut album last year. The mixtape gives a glimpse at the Blitz live experience but above all it highlights Blitz's approach to music. The delivery is very energetic and engaging. He's done the knowledge and studied the classics. Despite a clear displeasure with the current state of hip-hop, he keeps a positive outlook. Blitz The Ambassador and his band, the Embassy Movement, are a welcome breath of fresh air. With that said, I appreciate that this came out on my birthday last year. July 28 is not far, maybe we can get a Volume 2? How about it Blitz?

The Roots - Dilla Joints

The Roots - Dilla JointsThe government is James Yancey. The alias are Jay Dee, J Dilla, or Dilla for short. As saddening and tragic it was to lose Dilla to lupus a few years back, it was more distressing to realize that most of the world would never recognize how much of a genius he was. It is probably with that thought in mind that his peers and admirers have been on a relentless campaign to keep his name alive. We're talking about shows, mixtapes, albums, t-shirts and everything in between. The Roots have collaborated on several occasions with the Dilla and have remained some of the most ardent ambassadors of his music. Here they've compiled their renditions of some of J Dilla's finest work. Dilla Joints, a delightful treat.

It's finally here. I've been hyping this tape from Rukus and as expected it doesn't disappoint. The Hunger sets off a busy year for the Texan (of Nigerian descent) as he endeavours to make further headway on the hip-hop scene and, at the same time, gain a foothold on the Naija music scene. In that respect, The Hunger makes perfect sense. What you get is Rukus over original production (from the likes of Kid Konnect and Eldee), Rukus-featured remixes of Naija hits, Rukus freestyles and Rukus over stalwart beats from Kanye or Boi-1da

Nigeria has always been spoiled when it comes to musical talent. Then again, you could say the odds play in it's favor since it's the most populous African nation. It boasts a certain Jude Abaga, most commonly known as M.I.: he sits atop the elite of African emcees and this mixtape shall serve as definite proof. Story goes that shortly after releasing his firebomb debut, Talk About It (2008), the Most Incredible one had enough material for a sequel, but had no means to clear the samples. So it was repackaged into a mixtape for our enjoyment. M.I. is due to release his sophomore effort this year and an Illegal Music 2 is also in the works. Yay!

A few years back, on the trail of J Dilla's passing, Mick Boogie and Busta Rhymes came together for this mixtape in a concerted effort to keep Dilla's name out there and bring more awareness to his great work as a producer. Yesterday was Dilla's birthday and it feels right to spotlight this mixtape. More on J Dilla and Big Pun soon too, I promise!

J.Rhodes's sicktape prequel to his upcoming album Gloria's Sun. Dropped on January 29th which is his birthday. It is pretty much the album before the album so the format of the tape was treated as such. Rhodes just had so much material and the people have been waiting for the project so long that he decided to give them some dopeness to tie them over.

Cyrano says, "Formula 4'09: The Mixtape features the most posted and heavily rotated songs off of my 2009 mixtapes with producers Centric and Jslikk, features I did for 2009 mixtapes with RockTheDub.com and Rapcypher.com, and producers Kid Hum and DJ Leagues, and a few choice freestyles I put together to show off a little. 2010 looks to be a breakthrough year for me, as I'm prepped to release 2 completed albums: Back 2 Lyfe, entirely produced by Centric for Free At Last Music Group and Soul Train Dancer, entirely produced by Jslikk for Backpackers Anonymous Music Group. The singles for both albums will be released through my websites early 2010, plus I'm finishing up the loose ends on a free EP completely produced by Kid Hum of House Of Waxx Music entitled SoBeIt."

If all goes to according to plan, Joell Ortiz follow-up album, Free Agent, should see the light of day on February 23rd. It's been three years since his debut-album, but it hardly feels like it because we've been getting a steady dosage of heat from the Brooklynite. Last year alone, while holding his own alongside his Slaughterhouse brethren (Joe Budden, Royce Da 5'9" and Crooked I), he dropped two incredible mixtapes. One of them, Road Kill! Feel!
