RJD2 - The Colossus
Submitted by Sterfish on Wed, 02/17/2010 - 19:22Three years after taking a detour into pop/rock with The Third Hand, artist/producer RJD2 returns with his new album The Colossus. The first album released through RJD2's own record label, The Colossus is his first major album to feature hip-hop in six years. While it isn't without some missteps, this album is a welcome return to form.
The album kicks off in grand fashion with the excellent instrumental “Let There Be Horns.” The song, with its forceful horns and strings, is a bit of a proclamation of RJD2's return. The track even ends with a chorus of cheers and applause in the background.
Blitz the Ambassador - Stereotype
Submitted by Coach Kim on Mon, 02/08/2010 - 23:09“I do this for you!”
So starts Blitz The Ambassador’s Stereotype, one of the most impressive hip-hop albums in 2009. Strong, demanding lyrics backed up with live instrumentation are somewhat rare in hip-hop. And yet, there’s no denying the impact when such a successful combination of a powerful emcee with impressive musical artists is pulled off.
Sade - Soldier of Love
Submitted by Coach Kim on Wed, 02/03/2010 - 21:04“Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken… to love is to be vulnerable.”
– CS Lewis
Sade Adu’s ability to appeal to such a wide audience comes from her willingness to be vulnerable and abandonment while addressing relationships. Her music consistently offers a stripped down, yet sophisticated exploration of the intricacies of love, both the beautiful aspects and the heart-dismantling elements, presenting each in a way that provides comfort and compassion. Put it simply, Sade makes us feel like we’re not alone. Her writing dissects real emotions, her voice rich and evocative, and when presented alongside the production of longtime collaborator Mike Pela, the finished product comes off feeling like a strong hug from a close friend.
Danny! - Where Is Danny?
Submitted by Coach Kim on Thu, 12/17/2009 - 21:17It’s not supposed to happen this way. Artists who create memorable music and who persist in the face of music industry adversity are supposed to succeed and see results, whether they make it to the beloved land of commercial mainstream or simply find a loyal following from the underground community.
